This repeater was put first on the
air from Bill-WA4RDO's drug store on
two separate antenna's since we did
not have a duplexer. It was a "get by"
and finally we got on the woodyard
antenna up 190' with a duplexer &
autopatch as well as a 70 watt amp.
and 3/4" hardline with some RG8 too..(not a good combo). John Sheffield- N4KD was the driving force & techie behind the operation and hookup of the gear. We organized a small club in July of 1976,

ARRL affiliated Americus Amateur Radio Assoc. and officers were :Jim- K4VBH President, Bill Tye-WA4RDO-VP, John Sheffield-N4KD VP, Bob SumnerWA4QVM secretary,& Charlie Royal-WA4EIK treasurer. Meetings were whereever....offices, store, library, SEMCO, & later the city let us use a room in the basement of the municipal bldg. Gene (shown below) wasnt a ham, but he loved radio and climbed for us when we erected antenna's. :)
He had his lst Class FCC license as he was engineer at WDEC radio
and had his own TV & Commercial Radio shop.

The boy was at home sitting on top of the 190'
tower while we gave support from the ground!
Later this repeater was moved to theMunicipal Bldg where an antenna was installed
on the roof and coax run to the basement.

Shown here with first repeater is Bill WA4RDO, John N4KD & Karen , Windell WA4LHH & Jim & the K4VBH mobile. Housed in what looked like a doghouse with a telephone, the repeater system was off to a good start....sorta.
