Amateur Radio Trivia in Americus
Over the Past 45 years

Digging into the archives ...here's a bit of nostalgia and trivia for some of us.....and maybe a chuckle for others. This meeting of the Americus Amateur Radio Association was somewhere around 1978 and this was pretty much the entire ham population around here... Hand K4FIY was the only ham in Plains and Paul WA4RWS was the only one in Vienna. We met anywhere we could find a room and this was at the Sumter Electric civic meeting room and the program was a "left foot" sending CW contest! ( Hmmmm.....hard enough with left/right fingers) Each person had the opportunity to send a sentence using his left foot and the key on the floor. Prof W4UFD kept the stopwatch & score. I'm not sure but I think WD4EIK- Charlie Royal's son, James WD4BIB shown in above picture came in first and I think Carey & his pipe came in second...or was that last?

Sad to note that four of these 11 are silent keys and they are pretty much
in a line in the photo. Hand, Richard,Charlie, & Coach Knight.
